The human race had been faced with numerous crises; one of which is climate change. The deeply deteriorating nature of the environment is coupled with the adverse effects on its impacts on human life. The theme of Earth Day 2020 is “climate action”. Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life — support systems that make our world habitable. The first Earth day in 1970 mobilized millions of Americans for the protection of the planet on April 22, 1970, 20 million Americas — 10% of the US population at the time took to the streets; college compresses and hundreds of crises to protest environmental ignorance and demand a new forward for our planet.

Why Mother Earth “Bleeds”

The Humanity is currently “bleeding” for the effect of the corona virus pandemics; destroying having effects on economic well being of the nation. The 2020 Earth day is special as it comes to a time when the earth is reeling from the corona virus pandemic: affecting over 2.3 million people and killing hundreds of thousands of people. This coupled with the effects of climate crises and it implications. Succinctly, climate change and the corona virus pandemic are two sides of the same coin; killing both people and the economic structure of countries. Currently the United State unemployment rate is increasing with over 22 million people affected. IMF is predicting a contraction on various economic outlooks of nation.

Green Recovery: A Way Forwards.

The deep recession in the economy occasioned by how economy outlook requires a green economic stimulus. The unfortunate crash in oil prices and lack of true economic stimulus is endangering world economy; hence, the importance of a green recovery. Earth Day led to passage of landmark environmental laws in the United States including the clean Air, clean water and endangered species Act. Many countries soon adopted similar laws, and in 2016, the United Nations. Choose Earth Day as the day to sign the Paris Climate Agreement. A green economy ensures increase infrastructural development in areas of clean energy source, clean environment, clean water sources and agriculture. A diversified economy includes developed agricultural sector, uplift countries out of recession.

Conclusion

As part of measure containing economic crises is the economic recovery which is “greenish” in nature. If we don’t give to the environment in form of green economy, we keep on building negativity on pandemic.
